Welcome to the Wudu Guide
The Ritual Purification
Wudu (ablution) is the ritual washing performed before prayer and other acts of worship. It cleanses the body and soul, preparing the believer to stand before Allah in prayer.
Why Wudu is Important
Prayer Requirement
Wudu is a prerequisite for performing Salah (prayer). Without wudu, prayer is not valid.
Quranic reference: "O you who believe! When you rise up for prayer..." (5:6)
Spiritual Cleansing
Wudu not only cleanses the body but also washes away minor sins, leaving the believer spiritually refreshed.
Hadith: "When a Muslim performs wudu, his sins fall away with the water."
Divine Protection
Those who maintain wudu will be recognized by their light on the Day of Judgment.
Reward: Distinctive mark of believers on Judgment Day
Step-by-Step Wudu Guide

Wudu Requirements & Conditions
Clean Water
Use clean, pure water that is permissible for use. Avoid water that is contaminated or forbidden.
Types: Tap water, spring water, rain water
No Impurities
Remove any impurities from your body and clothes before starting wudu.
Examples: Urine, feces, blood, etc.
Intention
Must have the intention to perform wudu for purification before starting.
Important: Intention is made in the heart, not spoken
Complete Sequence
Follow the correct sequence of actions without unnecessary breaks between them.
Order: Follow the prescribed sequence exactly
Things that Nullify Wudu
Natural Bodily Functions
Urination, defecation, passing gas, or any discharge from private parts.
Important: Requires fresh wudu before prayer
Deep Sleep
Deep sleep where one is unaware of surroundings. Light dozing may not break wudu.
Guideline: If unsure, perform wudu again
Loss of Consciousness
Fainting, insanity, or intoxication that affects mental awareness.
Note: Must regain consciousness before prayer
Physical Contact
Touching a non-mahram of the opposite gender with desire (according to some scholars).
Variation: Different scholarly opinions exist
Eating Camel Meat
According to some scholars, eating camel meat nullifies wudu.
Note: This is a specific scholarly opinion
Post-Childbirth Bleeding
Menstrual bleeding and post-natal bleeding nullify wudu.
Important: Must perform ghusl (full bath) after period ends
Tips & Etiquette
Water Conservation
Use water moderately even if you have plenty. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used minimal water.
Guideline: About 1-2 liters is sufficient
Timing
Perform wudu close to prayer time to maintain freshness and purity.
Best practice: Just before the prayer call
Supplications
Recite the recommended supplications during and after wudu for additional reward.
After wudu: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah..."
Renewing Wudu
It's recommended to renew wudu for each prayer, even if it hasn't been broken.
Benefit: Increased spiritual reward
Wiping Over Socks
When wearing socks, you can wipe over them instead of washing feet for 24 hours (72 hours when traveling).
Conditions: Socks must cover ankles and be put on after wudu
Medical Considerations
If you have injuries or medical conditions preventing water use, you can perform tayammum (dry ablution).
Method: Use clean earth or dust on face and hands
Common Questions
Can I cut my nails during wudu?
Yes, you can cut your nails during or after wudu. It doesn't affect the validity of your purification.
Important: Ensure water reaches all required areas
Does nail polish invalidate wudu?
Yes, nail polish creates a barrier that prevents water from reaching the nails, invalidating wudu.
Solution: Remove nail polish before wudu or use breathable polish
What if I run out of water?
You can perform tayammum (dry ablution) using clean earth, dust, or sand when water is unavailable.
Method: Strike earth with hands, then wipe face and hands
Can I shower instead of wudu?
Yes, showering with the intention of wudu is sufficient if all required parts are washed in sequence.
Important: Must maintain the proper order and intention
